Niall and Liam Short Story
"You can’t keep going on this way, Liam!" Louis’ voice was stern, but not yet filled with anger." "Cutting yourself is not the answer!" "I can do whatever I want Lou. I’m perfectly capable making my own decisons without any kind of help from you or any of you guys." Liam stormed out, and was never seen again.
Niall fell to his knees, doubled over in the floor, overcome with tears as the door slammed. Harry approached him slowly, laying a hand on his back. He was shaking violently. Niall and Liam had a connection that none of the other boys could understand. “He’ll be back..” Harry let his words trail off.
That was it. Everything was done. Liam’s face had a cold look to it. The bullet hole in his head was almost not visible. The top on the casket was closed and lowered into the dark hole. Niall’s body ached and shook uncontrollably as he tried to hold in his despair. His eyes were bloodshot. Never again would Liam have to fight his was through this world. He’d never be disturbed again. He didn’t have to drink his anger away, or do drugs to make himself happy. No.. That was all over, and a new journey began for him…
Zayn sat on the opposite side of the room from Niall. He looked different. He hadn’t shaved in a long time. His face seemed distorted. His eyelids drooped from lack of sleep as dark circles surrounded his eyes. Color had long since left his face, as well as any laugh, smile, or trace of happiness. His eyes were cold and dim. Suddenly, Zayn noticed Niall’s posture change from the slumped over position he had been in for hours to a perked up posture.
"Liam? Is that you?" To others, it would seem like Niall was calling to nothing, but he could see a figure by the window that resembled Liam. The figure neared him, and the details of the unidentified mass became more clear. "Liam. How did you get here? I-I thought you were dead." Liam’s spirit sat down beside him on the sofa. "I was sent back to earth. I’m on a mission. My mission is to guide and protect you so you don’t end up like me." There’s a note under my mattress. Go read it." Niall quickly ran into the room he and Liam once shared. Niall’s bed was neat and well made. Liam’s bed was just as he left it. Unmade and messy. Carefully Niall lifted the mattress up, seeing a tan piece of paper. He retrieved the note and it read:
Even though I’m gone, I’ll forever be in your heart. Live your life to the fullest and have no regrets. Tell the boys I’m sorry for leaving them as well. You guys made such a huge impact on my life, and I just want to say thank you.
Niall ran back into the living room, shaking. He looked up as Liam’s figure smiled and disappeared into the beams of light coming in through the window. Harry entered the room. “Niall..? What’s wrong? ” Remaining silent as everyone asked him what was wrong, he quickly turned and grabbed the keys to his car and an old picture of him and Liam as he rushed out of the door.
Five minutes later he was at the cliff that he had rescued Liam from falling off of when they were small children. Ever since then they had remained friends. Niall ran his thumb over the picture of him and his best friend. It was hard to believe he was dead. The engine was still running, the gear in park. Holding the picture and the steering wheel in his left hand, he reached for the gear. He moved it to drive. Pressing down on the gas, Niall drove of the cliff to plummet to his inevitable death. Before landing in the frigid water below, Niall stared numbly at the picture and whispered softly,”I’m coming for you.”
